The Portuguese Algarve
The Algarve is the most southern region of Western
Portugal and Spain, on the tip of Europe, with the vast
Atlantic Ocean as its southern border; this excellent position
gives
the region possibly the most unpolluted climate in the
continent. The Algarve is one of Europe's favourite destinations,
well known for glorious year round sunshine; traditional
whitewashed villages; delicious fresh fish and shellfish
dishes and vast stretches of golden sandy beaches set against
dramatic, honey-toned, crumbling cliffs at the western
end and beautiful pine forest in the Eastern and Spanish
region.
 The
Algarve’s great charm, beauty and calm pace of life
co-exist with modern developments offering all the comforts
and facilities for today’s modern living.
The coastal resorts retain the gentle atmosphere that is
characteristic of the local people, providing a delightful
insight into
traditional life. The property market has experienced a
boom in recent years due to the improved infrastructure,
year round climate, lifestyle and accessibility.
The Algarve has excellent road and rail infrastructure
and the international airport at Faro is only two hours
traveling from many of the UK’s major cities; it
is served well by the economy airlines. The border with
Spain is only a 30-minute drive and Lisbon is only two
hours away using newly completed motorways and this brings
the Spanish Algarve and short breaks to the capital within
easy reach.
Due to the pleasant climate, warm summers and mild winters,
the Spanish and Portuguese Algarve both offer the ideal
year round location. The area boasts some world-class golf
courses, tennis clubs and a full range of water sports.
You can also experience horse riding and walking amongst
the natural beauty of the Algarvian and Andalucian hillside

The Western Algarve is less developed, more relaxed and
more authentically Portuguese. The area has been attracting
visitors in search of tranquility, wildlife and the opportunity
to experience Portuguese culture. Lagos
is an atmospheric town encircled by massive 16th century
walls. In the town centre, discover a maze of cobbled streets,
shops, open-air cafes and restaurants.

Central Algarve
Faro is the capital of the Algarve and is the largest,
busiest and one of the oldest of the region's towns.
In the centre there is a quiet walled city of immense
historic character, as well as a lively shopping area with
plenty of pavement cafes. Albufeira is the Algarve's most
popular tourist resort. It is a fun, family-orientated
resort enjoyed by
all age groups who enjoy a bustling holiday atmosphere
by the seaside. Vilamoura is built on a site of Roman ruins
and nowadays is more famous for its exclusive marina and
large variety of sporting facilities.

Eastern Algarve
Like the Spanish Algarve, the Eastern Algarve is very different
compared to the rugged beauty found west of Faro. The
towns and small resorts along the coast have retained much
of their character, looking today as they did long ago.
The coastal towns include the port of Olhao, the city of
Tavira, and the resort of Montegordo with its glorious
expanse of golden sandy beach. The countryside is unspoiled
and
Vila Real, alongside the broad flat valley of the River
Guadiana, offers a gateway to the very different Spanish
region of Andalucia. Here tourism blends in perfectly with
local activities creating a relaxed way of life.
